Getting Around in Portugal

Traveling by Coach is easy and comfortable as the extensive network set up in Portugal of buses is run by privately owned companies. Prices are always competitive and service is always efficient and delivered with a warm smile. In northern Portugal, Porto-Lisbon-Algarve routes are predominantly handled by the Renex Company. Their departure point in Porto is next door to the city’s most famous landmark, the Clérigos Tower. The REDM Company works the Porto-Braga route as the coaches depart from Rua Dr. Alfredo Magalhães, located adjacent to the Jornal de Notícias building. From here, travellers can also reach Ponte de Lima via Barcelos, Guimarães and Viana do Castelo via Póvoa de Varzim.

The capital city of Lisbon is also linked to Porto, Braga in the north and Faro in the south by Rede Expressos, which run regular services all over Portugal. The main Bus station is run in central Lisbon at the top of Avenida Casal Ribeiro, while many of the connecting services by the recently opened Oriente station located at the former Expo ’98 site in eastern Lisbon.
