Portugal is as easy to get to as any other major country in Europe. With three major airports set up in Lisbon, Porto and the Algarve region in the south end of the country. Several smaller airports flying throughout Europe and within Portugal are also set up throughout the nation. The bus and rail transportation systems are efficiently and conveniently arranged as well.

TAP airlines flies directly to Lisbon from countries such as the Netherlands, Spain, England, Germany, France, the USA and Canada. You won’t have any trouble locating a direct flight to Lisbon throughout the year. While most charters only fly to other spots in the country such as Algarve during the spring and summer months only.

Regular bus schedules travel through Portugal via France, Spain and England, while trains run out of France and Spain throughout the entire year. A train or bus ride is an excellent option when you consider the savings and scenic beauty offered in taking the ‘long way’ there. Portugal is out of the way when it comes to the European hub of countries, however it is worth visiting, especially since tourist season is never as crowded as the rest of Europe.

It is certainly worth getting a full rail pass especially if you intended on exploring Portugal from the top to bottom. The mainland rail system is cheap and tickets are relatively inexpensive. On the islands of Madeira and the Azores, taking taxi cabs are a more viable option for such a small distance. Of course this is sunny Portugal; you can always walk and rejuvenate yourself with the fresh air, amazing weather and the beautiful sights.
